Semigroup presentations for test local groups

چکیده
In this paper we exhibit a type of semigroup presentations which determines a class of local groups. We show that the finite elements of this class generate the pseudovariety LG of all finite local groups and use them as test-semigroups to prove that LG and S, the pseudovariety of all finite semigroups, verify the same κ-identities involving κ-terms of rank at most 1, where κ denotes the implicit signature consisting of the multiplication and the (ω − 1)-power.

Braided Diagram Groups and Local Similarity Groups
Hughes defined a class of groups that act as local similarities on compact ultrametric spaces. Guba and Sapir had previously defined braided diagram groups over semigroup presentations. The two classes of groups share some common characteristics: both act properly by isometries on CAT(0) cubical complexes, and certain groups in both classes have type F∞, for instance. Here we clarify the relati...
متن کاملPresentations for Subsemigroups of Groups
This thesis studies subsemigroups of groups from three perspectives: automatic structures, ordinary semigroup presentations, and Malcev presentaions. [A Malcev presentation is a presentation of a special type for a semigroup that can be embedded into a group. A group-embeddable semigroup is Malcev coherent if all of its finitely generated subsemigroups admit finite Malcev presentations.] The th...
متن کاملOn the Minimal Length of Semigroup Presentations
We define the length of a semigroup presentation and related ideas. Theoretical results and bounds are presented, gained while investigating the lengths of groups defined by semigroup presentations. Minimal length semigroup presentations are obtained in certain cases. AMS Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 20F05, 20M05
متن کاملMalcev Presentations for Subsemigroups of Groups — a Survey
This paper introduces and surveys the theory of Malcev presentations. [Malcev presentations are a species of presentation that can be used to define any semigroup that can be embedded into a group.] In particular, various classes of groups and monoids all of whose finitely generated subsemigroups admit finite Malcev presentations are described; closure and containment results are stated; links ...
متن کاملIrreducible Numerical Semigroups
We give a characterization for irreducible numerical semi-groups. From this characterization we obtain that every irre-ducible numerical semigroup is either a symmetric or pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroup. We study the minimal presentations of an irreducible numerical semigroup. Separately, we deal with the cases of maximal embedding dimension and multiplicity 3 and 4.
